In this talk the speaker will discuss some first-hand experience in using computer softwares, in particular MATLAB and MAPLE, in research on differential equations. Numerical experiments are helpful in formulating guesses and conjectures, and sometimes they even suggest possible directions to look for proofs. Symbolic manipulation takes the drudgery away from complicated and technical computations and also helps in trial-and-error type of experiments.
