Michael Kwok-Po Ng

Michael Ng is an Associate Professor in the
Department of Mathematics and
is also Adjunct Research Fellow in the
E-Business Technology Institute
at the
University of Hong Kong.
He did his undergraduate and M.Phil.
degrees (from 1987 to
1992) at the University of Hong Kong and
obtained his Ph.D. degree from
Department of Mathematics at the
Chinese University of Hong Kong
in 1995. He
was a Research Fellow in
Computer Sciences Laboratory,
Research School of Information Sciences and Engineering ,
Australian National University
before taking up his current job from September 1997.
He was
one of the finalists and
honourable mention of Householder Award IX,
in 1996 at Switzerland, and obtained an excellent young researcher's
presentation at Nanjing International
Conference on Optimization and Numerical Algebra, 1999.
In 2001, he has been selected
as one of the recipients of the
Outstanding Young Researcher Award of the University of Hong Kong.
He is now the Public Relations Secretary (2002-2004, 1998-2000) and was
the Publications Secretary (2000-2002) of the
Hong Kong Mathematical Society. He organizes many
conferences and workshops
and also serves as program, scientific and organizing committee members
in many
conferences and workshops.
He provides consultancy services to CLP Power, PCCW, HK
Government Environmental
Protection Department, some finanical companies in Hong Kong, and
LOGISTICS, HK Productivity Council
Publications.
Recently, he is the Principal Investigator of an
Innovation and Technology Fund Project (7 millions): Intelligent
Classification Technologies for Email Data in Chinese
and Mixed Languages .
Michael's research areas are Data Mining, Operations Research and Scientific Computing.
He is the faculty member of the
Operations Research Group in the Department of
Mathematics, the University of Hong Kong. He has
research projects in the areas of
Numerical Linear Algebra, Signal and Image Processing, Numerical Partial Differential Equations,
Data Mining and Parallel
Computing. His
mathematical publications have been
published more than 150 papers in the refereed journals and proceedings.
He also serves on the editorial boards of
Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications,
Numerical Mathematics -- A Journal of Chinese Universities (English
Series),
Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing (MULT) , and
International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering.
He has been the guest editors of the special issues
``Structured Matrices with Applications'' in
Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications,
``ORG2003" in International Journal of Applied Mathematics,
``High-Resolution Image
Reconstruction'' in
International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology,
``Scientific Computing in Beijing and Hong Kong'',
Applied Mathematics and Computation.
