Michael Kwok-Po Ng

Associate Professor in
Department of Mathematics, The University of Hong Kong

As an applied mathematican, Michael's research interest covers data mining, operations research and scientific computing. He develops theories on computer mathematical models of large-scale problems. He has also created computational tools to help people extract useful information from the rapidly expanding volumes of data.

"The bringing together of theory and practice leads t the most favourable results; not only does practice benefit, but the sciences themselves develop under the influence of practice, which reveals new subjects of investigation and new aspects of familiar subjects" P.L. Chebyshev

Current Research Topics in Data Mining : Subspace Clustering and Web Mining.

Current Research Topics in Operations Research: Higher-order Markov Chain Models.

Current Research Topics in Scientific Computing: Iterative Methods for non-Hermitian Systems, non-Hermitian Toeplitz Systems, Half-quadratic Regularization, High-resolution Image Sequences Reconstruction and Parallel Image Processing.
