Some advice to students who want to major in mathematics

Students with different mathematics background can major in mathematics by taking different paths.

In the table below, there are some suggestions for introductory level courses.
You can find the course description by clicking the course names.

Qualification	Suggestion
AL Pure Mathematics	Take the following course in the first semester MATH1001 - Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics (offered in both semesters) Take the following two courses in the first or second semester (it is not recommended to take both in the 2nd semester) MATH1111 - Linear Algebra (offered in both semesters) MATH1211 - Multi-variable Calculus (offered in both semesters)
HKCEE Additional Mathematics and AS Mathematics and Statistics	Take the following course in the first semester MATH1001 - Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics (offered in both semesters) Take the following two courses in the first or second semester (it is not recommended to take both in the 2nd semester) MATH1111 - Linear Algebra (offered in both semesters) MATH1211 - Multi-variable Calculus (offered in both semesters)
AS Mathematics and Statistics	The following is a suggestion. Consult Dr. G. Han or Dr. K.H. Law or Prof. K.M. Tsang or Dr. C.W. Wong or Dr. S. Wu for more advice. Take the following two courses in the first semester MATH1804 - University Mathematics A (offered in both semesters) MATH1001 - Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics (offered in both semesters) Take the following two courses in the second semester MATH1111 - Linear Algebra (offered in both semesters) MATH1211 - Multi-variable Calculus (offered in both semesters)

HKCEE Mathematics	It may be difficult for students with only HKCEE Mathematics to major in mathematics. Wu for more advice. Take and obtain a good grade in the following course in the first semester MATH0201 - Basic Calculus (offered in both semesters) Take the following course in the first semester (a good grade in HKCEE Mathematics is required) MATH1001 - Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics (offered in both semesters) Take the following two courses in the second semester (a good grade in MATH0201 is required) MATH1111 - Linear Algebra (offered in both semesters) MATH1211 - Multi-variable Calculus (offered in both semesters)
Students from the Mainland	The following is a suggestion. Students with strong math background may replace introductory level course(s) by advanced level one(s). Consult Dr. G. Han or Dr. K.H.
