Our Vision and Mission
As a mathematics department with the longest history in Hong Kong our Department aspires to the highest standard of excellence in education, research and knowledge exchange.
Education We provide an environment where students can benefit from a good solid education in mathematics that nurtures their quantitative reasoning, logical and analytical thinking, meticulous care to work, ability to conceptualize, problem-solving skill and innovative imagination. This establishes a foundation for students to grow in their preferred profession, thereby contributing to different industries in the society
Research By producing a continual stream of publications that appear in international refereed journals, the Department has earned recognition in the mathematical community local and abroad, in particular with the establishment of the Institute of Mathematical Research in 1999. Having close collaborations with mathematicians and centres of mathematical research over the world, our members actively participate in international conferences or workshops, and a number of them also contribute by serving the editorial boards of renowned international journals.
Knowledge Exchange We share and promote the belief that mathematics plays an important role in the history of humanity and a valuable one in the future, our department forms a bridge between academics and the community. This is buttressed by mathematical lectures and other mathematics-related public events.
